XtraMiles is one worldwide family, and everyone in it volunteers their time. Some of us roll up our sleeves, some of us spread the word, and some of us help decide where we can make the biggest difference.
Volunteer
You notice when someone near you is struggling, and you'd rather do something about it than look away.
What you'll do
- Submit cases for people in your community who need help
- Join case teams anywhere: on the ground where you live, or remotely from wherever you are
- Be appointed case leader and guide a team, if you're ready for it
- Help the people you support build their Xtra Mile plan
Time it takes
It's up to you. Each case shows how much time it needs, from a single afternoon to a few hours a week over several months.
What you need
A willingness to show up. Skills like building, teaching, cooking or driving help, but they aren't required.
Ambassador
Being an ambassador is an open role. You're the voice and connector of XtraMiles where you are, and you help shape what we do next.
What you'll do
- Share cases, updates, final reports, findings and news with your social media following
- Receive cases from people around you and forward them to XtraMiles
- Suggest activities, events and new ways we can help
- Become part of coordination as you grow into the role
- Help us reach volunteers in places we haven't reached yet
Time it takes
At least a few shares every week; ambassadors who share at least once a week count as active. Beyond that, take on as much as you like.
What you need
An active social media following, a network you can reach, and a genuine wish to help people, near and far.
Continental coordinator
You help decide who receives help and how. It's the role with the most responsibility at XtraMiles, and we don't take it lightly.
What you'll do
- Review submitted cases for your continent and accept or decline them
- Set the plan of action: solution, timeframe and what success looks like
- Appoint case leaders as teams form
- Confirm final reports when cases are completed
Time it takes
Regular case reviews. Urgent cases need a response within days, so you'll need to check in often.
What you need
Experience that helps you judge real needs fairly, such as work in healthcare, social work, community organising or project management, and the commitment to treat every case with care.
